Counseling the Counselor
A two days state level workshop “Counseling the Counselor: Workshop on Tutoring and Counseling in ODL system” was organized in the Rajiv Gandhi University campus by the Institute of Distance Education, RGU on 4-5 April 2011. Participants varied from faculty members in University and Colleges to Research Scholars. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. P. K. Das, Director, NERIST. In his inaugural address he enumerated on the importance of distance education especially in context of Arunachal Pradesh.
Prof C. R. K. Murthy and Prof P. K. Biswas, Professors of Distance Education at STRIDE, IGNOU, New Delhi were invited as Resource Persons. Prof. Murthy and Prof. Biswas, threw light on how ODL has become an important medium of imparting education and also the role of counselor in ODL system. Dr. M. C. Behera, the first director of IDE and a Resource Person at the workshop also spoke on inaugural session.
Ashan Riddi, Director of the institute in his welcome address, highlighted how the Institute was establishing itself as a major facilitator of education in distance mode in state. Moyir Riba, Assistant Professor at the Institute also spoke.
The inaugural session was followed by technical sessions, over the two days, as below :

In the valedictory session, in the presence of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tamo Mibang, both the Resource Persons as well the participants shared their view on the workshop.
‘Writing for the Distance Learner- A Workshop on Development of SLMs in ODL’
A two days State Level Workshop for “Writing for the Distance Learner- A Workshop on Development of SLMs in ODL” was organized at IDE, Rajiv Gandhi University by the Institute of Distance Education on 26-27 March 2012. The training program targeted to give an introduction and orientation to all Resource Persons of the IDE in preparing study material in the distance mode.
Participants varied from faculty members in Colleges and Research Scholars. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Tamo Mibang, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor. In his inaugural address he expressed how important it was to ‘not just share but share with effectiveness’.
Prof. C. R. K. Murthy and Prof. Madhu Parhar, from STRIDE were the invited Resource Persons. The workshop was designed to be activity oriented.

In the valedictory session, along with the guests, the participants expressed their problems related to their experiences in ODL. The participants were given participation certificates as well.
‘Orientation-cum-Training for Non-Teaching Staff of IDE and Study Centres’
A One Day State Level Workshop for “Orientation-cum-Training for Non-Teaching Staff of IDE and Study Centres” was organized at IDE, Rajiv Gandhi University by the Institute of Distance Education on 25 March 2013. The training program targeted to give an introduction and orientation to all Non- Teaching Staff working in the ODL mode in thwe headquarter as well as the 9 study centres.
Participants varied from faculty members in Colleges and Reserch Scholars alongwith the Non-Teaching Staffs. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Ashan Riddi, Director, IDE.In his inaugural address he enumerated on the role of the NT Staff in distance education especially in context of Arunachal Pradesh.
Moji Riba, HoD (i/c), Dep’t Of Mass Com, RGU M. Maltesh, Chief Librarian, RGU, Satish Das, Assistant Professor, CSE, RGU and Moyir Riba, Assistant Professor, IDE, RGU were the Resource persons for the day long training.

‘The Way Ahead: Multi Media and e-Modular Leaning at ODL'
The Institute of Distance Education, Rajiv Gandhi University organized a two-day workshop on 19th & 20th March 2014. Looking at the need to expand the ways of teaching in the distance mode, “The Way Ahead: Multi Media and e-Modular Leaning at ODL”, was designed as a workshop to introduce the concepts of the new methods of teaching that are fast becoming the preferred choice amongst the learners. The workshop intended to impart basic training to contributors of IDE in development of educational multimedia products and innovate the teaching-learning process for the learners.
The inaugural session was held at the conference hall of the RGU. Prof. K. C. Kapoor, Honb’le Vice Chancellor (i/c) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, Dr. Ashan Riddi, Director, IDE expressed that it is very important for the state to meet the international standards and for this new areas should be explored. He hoped that the workshop would be the first step towards this vision.
Prof. Kapoor addressing the gathering, emphasized on the new approaches of learning and more specifically modular approach. He explained the process of modular design and how the same can minimize the distance between teacher and student in the ODL mode. ‘Modular approach will bring revolution in leaning’ he stated as the learners play an active role in this method of teaching. Dr. Ankuran Dutta, Program Officer, CEMCA and a Resource Person for the workshop also spoke on the occasion. Dr. Anamika Ray, Assistant Professor, Dep’t of Mass Communication, Guwahati University, Resource person for technical session was also present.
Technical support to the workshop was extended by the dep’t of mass communication, RGU. The outcomes of the workshop were two educational audio tools and two educational videos.
In the valedictory session, each group presented the four products. Dr. T Lungdim, Head, Dep’t of Education congratulated the participants on their maiden efforts. He also appreciated the efforts of the IDE to organize such a workshop. In the closing remarks, workshop coordinator expressed gratitude to all that made the event successful, specially the participants whose contribution made the production of tools possible.
